Sanford's has been an Astoria landmark and destination point for great food for over 75 years. Established in 1922, Sanford's was a coffee shop operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In 1975, John Karalekas, a Greek immigrant, purchased the Sanford’s and ran it for 15 years. Then, in the early 90's, his 2 children, the Astoria born Karalekas brothers, Chris and Gus, took over Sanford's and transformed it into a modern diner. In keeping with their father’s legacy, they continued to serve great food at any time of the day or late evening.
Through the years, the Karalekas brothers realized the diner concepts of today were not what they used to be 20 years ago. They decided to re-invent themselves and the diner. Gus Karalekas, a graduate of St. John's University in Queens, and a self taught chef started to re-vamp the menu with fresh ideas and even fresher ingredients. Older brother and partner Chris Karalekas, a graduate of Pace University in Manhattan, and an avid wine enthusiast went on to cultivate his love of wine, to become a Certified Sommelier. Chris introduced a fresh, affordable and unique wine list to Sanford’s, which today, aside from the food, and atmosphere, is attracting wine enthusiasts from all over the city.
Together, with their love of food and fine wine they differentiated their diner and Re-Invented Sanford’s. The Sanford’s of today is a restaurant serving contemporary American cuisine, upscale comfort food and diversified wine and unique beer at affordable prices. Boasting New York's most affordable premium wine list, and arguably the best food in Astoria, they have evolved once again by associating the Sanford’s name with quality food, drink, and atmosphere into yet another generation of excellence.
Butternut Squash Ravioli—With toasted almond sage cream sauce
Grilled Calamari—Fire roasted peppers, onions, tomatoes, olive oil and balsamic vinegar
Bistro Burger—Pepper Jack cheese, apple wood bacon and Cajun aioli
Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad—Organic greens, dried cranberries, sliced almonds, apples, sesame ginger dressing and cranberry aioli
Pork Osso Bucco—Slow cooked with au jus reduction; served with garlic mashed potatoes
Hangar Steak—Sweet potato mash, seared asparagus and Napa cabernet reduction
This place is a little overhyped. The food is decent, but I don't think I have ever been blown away. Delivery is super-slow. For the price, I would prefer to go elsewhere, but I can see how people might enjoy it.

I got food poisoning after eating this food last weekend. I called Seamless immediately after to tell them and requested a refund. They did not stand behind their service. They told me to contact the vendor directly. I only ate three bites as the food tasted spoiled! Buyer beware.

Ummmmm.. Why do entrees keep disappearing from this menu. As soon as you find something you love, it's gone the next week from the seamless menu. Weird.
Great food tho!

I am a big fan of Sanford's. But I ordered the chocolate chip lava cake desert on seamless, and they didn't give me ice cream, chocolate or caramel syrup.... Simply a $6 cookie. Pretty disappointing, probably an honest mistake though.

HORRIBLE. Ordered delivery and when the delivery guy came he refused to give us our food claiming that we didn't pay when you have to pay credit card on seamless. When we called the restaurant to say how unprofessional that was I realized they had gotten my order completely wrong and the guy on the phone hung up on me. Needless to say my second call back was not a nice one on my end. I cannot believe how unprofessional and nasty the customer service was and I will never spend another dollar in this place ever again.

Pretty good food, however overpriced ordering online. For example, when you order the brunch special for $16 at Sanford's you get a choice of beverage and a choice of mimosa, Bloody Mary type drink. When you order online you don't...but pay the same amount.

I ordered the apple tricolor salad and the salad was swimming in dressing. I've never seen anything quite like it. It was inedible. I called and they sent me a new one with dressing on the side, which was very nice. The pasta with chicken had good sauce but the chicken tasted fried. Overall the food was just mediocre and not worth the price.

I usually love Sanford's, but today's delivery wasn't great. My food took almost 2hours in the middle of the afternoon. The meal arrived all squished to one side and cold... Hope the quality goes back up to normal next time.

its okay. had delivery here a few times and dined in twice. I think its an upscale diner.

This place is normally really good (one of my favorite spots in Astoria actually). But tonight was a very odd experience. I ordered the cheese burger. It doesn't have any toppings on it. I also wasn't given the option to add any toppings. I've never heard of a restaurant doing this. On top of that, their sandwiches usually come with tortilla chips, so I assumed the burger would too, but it didn't. If I had known that I would have ordered a side.

One of my favorite places to eat in Astoria! They have excellent quality food, are open 24hrs, and deliver late--- we have what Brooklyn doesn't!

I am extremely offended. The worst service I have experienced. Order was messed up got the wrong items with the wrong ingredients. First time I call they tell me to hold and hang up. Next time I call to explain the issue they dont follow through.

I love going to Sanford's but I must remind myself that they kinda suck when it comes to delivery. I was jonesing for the peanut butter pie so I got that and the falafel. I don't mind waiting but when it arrived, the falafel was missing it's dipping sauce and the pie had melted from the heat of the balls. The balls didn't have any taste to them. More than anything, I was upset about the pie. My poor, sad pie.

Stumbled upon this gem one day only to find myself in brunch heaven! I went in on a Thursday morning and there were plenty of tables available, it tends to get crowded between 12 and 2 for the lunch rush. I had the waffle s'mores which are to die for! I had it a a prix fix brunch that comes with a mimosa and coffee. I don't think there will be a better brunch spot for me than sanfords. The food itself is amazing here especially the death by mushroom ravioli. Finding sanfords on seamless sealed the deal for me and it was over right there. I've resorted to ordering from there once a week. The delivery process is simple and the food always comes hot. Definitely 5 stars for me!

We absolutely love Sanford! We order all the time and always take visiting family. The peasant salad is a must have and the crab cake sandwich is the best I have had!

Food took an hour and a half to arrive and was super cold-such a disappointment.

Not sure about how it works on seamless, but it's the best salad i've ever had. Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad; at 14 dollars it best be worth it, totally is.

In restaurant food is fantastic. Ordered French toast with bacon and coffee when stuck at home sick. When delivered the coffee was half spilled and soupy at the bottom of the bag. French toast was delicious, but just slapped into a container - no powdered sugar or presentation which is only disappointing because it was so expensive.

Too expensive. nothing special. I'm not a fan of their fritata, orzo soup, Cesar salad, mushroom ravioli, waffles, corn beef hash, or pancakes. We kept trying this place because they are open late. we are done

So I asked for extra dressing - and got even LESS dressing than they usually send. Crabcakes were lukewarm and taste FISHY. This is really a subpar ordering experience.
Posted 3 years ago by Rose L.
I wanted a wrap with fries. I believe that when you are there in person it's wrap, salad or soup, and fries. But on seamless, it says soup OR salad.
I called to ask and they told me that I should have an option for fries, which I DIDN'T. So then he says just to write it in special instructions.
I got my food. Why did I bother with fries when they are almost liquid they are so soggy? I know it's hard for delivery but come on... these were bad. My wrap was soggy but good.
I asked for a side of their chipotle aioli dipping sauce and didn't get it.
Took about an hour, with 45-60 estimated.
I'll stick to the brunch in person...

When I moved to Astoria, Sanfords was run by the father before it got turned over to the sons. The interior was pink, old school diner. The food was straight up NY diner. The sons took over, the interior decked out and the menu improved. Drastically. However, over the past few years, the prices have increased and increased. Somewhere along the line, the sons lost caring that they were in OUR shared neighborhood with a shared history. A neighborhood that prided itself on being able to get a great meal at a fair price. What happened? Maybe the hipsters don't notice. Maybe they want to pay $20 for a basic pasta that was $13 just three years ago. But I don't. Shame on you Sanford's.
The BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich I ordered was good, but not worth the price. The remainder of the order was fairly bad. The first thing I noticed upon opening the bag was a hair - always a good start to a meal :-/. With the sandwich, there was a handful of very bland, dark colored chips. I also ordered a piece of pecan pie, which, at $6, I expected to be fairly large - it was probably the smallest piece of pie I have ever received. There are a number of restaurants I would order from on Seamless again - this is not one of them.

Usually I'm a major fan of Sanford's.. Chicken burger was burton bottom, and sweet potato fries were cooked with onion rings and tasted like it. Also took an hour and the delivery guy was rude. Will take a break from ordering from here... Seemed like an off night for all...

I was really disappointed after all of the awesome things I've heard about Sanford's. I ordered the appetizer chicken tenders & truffle fries. The chicken tenders were so dry and burnt that I wasn't able to eat them - the panko breading was completely black in some places. The fries were okay (I set my expectations low knowing that they're not the best "to go" food) but I was disappointed with how little truffle flavor there was. After the first few fries any trace of truffle disappeared. Perhaps these dishes are best saved for an in-person visit.

After being a loyal customer for over nine years ordering from Sanford's often and visiting the restaurant frequently I am sad to say that this place has lost me as a customer. Their customer service is terrible. After placing an order and subbing goat cheese for blue cheese I was charged for the difference in price over 24 hours later without being notified. After two calls and trying to sort the issue out nothing was done to fix the issue. So if you want to change something about your order be warned that they may just randomly charge you the next day. Ridiculous.

24/7 and the best food around. Never been disappointed by the taste, but you might have to wait the full hour for delivery -- it's worth it.
Posted 3 years ago by Susan F.
Just ordered the tomato soup which was fine. Also ordered the salad with roasted peppers, apple slices and goat cheese. It came drenched in so much salad dressing it was wilted and completely unedible. What a disappointment from Sanfords.
Posted 3 years ago by sarah s.
The delivery time is way too long! I've been waiting for 1.5 hour and have not received any phone call! My courtesy suggestion to the customers who want to order a brunch, it's not worth it to waste of your precious time on weekend!
Posted 3 years ago by Ji Z.
Delivery arrived within the specified time. This was my first time ordering from here. I had read about the pulled pork sandwich online and had ordered an excellent one last night from a nearby restaurant, so I decided to give the sandwich a try here. There was a generous helping of smokey, tender pork on a soft roll all served, strangely, with a side of tortilla chips. All in all the sandwich was tasty. The issue was the generic, KFC masterpiece barbecue sauce...it was heavily applied and just...well, generic. Overall this was a fine first experience and I may eat here again, but if i want a good pulled pork sandwich (at a cheaper price) I'll head elsewhere.

is it the best restaurant in new york? no, of course not. is it the best restaurant in new york that will bring you a meal large enough to satisfy an adult male for both a dinner and leftover lunch at $17 right to your door on the other side of which you don't even need to be wearing pants? i would argue yes. sanford's wrap/sandwich, duck burger, both ahi tuna options, skirt steak, crab cake, cream of turkey soup, extra aioli... hell, dine in, the wine list is among the borough's best. anyone hating on this place is delusional.

Sanford's is incredible! It is my favorite restaurant on seamless by a mile. It is the only restaurant in the area offers such high quality food at such affordable prices, AND they are open 24 hours! The pulled pork sandwich is amazing! Not only is it great on it's own, but sometimes I'll buy two pulled pork sandwiches and use them to make pulled pork nachos. I highly recommend it and everything else on the menu! (some other favorites include: Crab Cake Sandwich, Penne with chicken/avocado cream sauce, & ANYTHING with their ahi tuna!)

Just got delivery from them for the second time and was really disappointed. I order two big boy breakfasts which came out to about $26 and I didn't receive toast for either one and got one little maple syrup and all the butters we got were all melted. When I called them up the guy who answered had a real attitude and first said that toast didn't come with the meal (which it does, and I got it last time with it) and then he said well what do you want me to do about that? Not even a sorry or anything.
Posted 3 years ago by Brian L.
Came within the delivery window (1 hour, 7 minutes), and everything was accounted for. Unfortunately, I live about a mile away, so the truffle fries and gouda burger weren't as fresh as could be expected in-restaurant. The gouda burger was still great, but the truffle fries just tasted starchy. However, I'm giving five stars because the banana caramel cheesecakse xangos are ORGASMIC. I would order from here again just for those. In fact I'd order two of them and call it a meal!

The food is really good, but I have one problem with this place. They advertise the pancakes, french toast, etc. as coming with pure maple syrup. I have ordered 3 times now and every time my delivery comes without any syrup, even when I request it in the notes to include it. Pancakes without syrup are no fun, and running out to the store to buy some really defeats the purpose of delivery.

Was lured in by the good reviews for this place- but came out disappointed. Waited over an hour for a delivery, called to check on it and got no apology or explanation. Food came 20 min later and was fairly mediocre. Pulled Pork Sandwich was super highly rated and recommended and was OK but not great. Comes with a bunch of tortilla chips but no dip or anything? Sweet Potato mash was good but bland. Caramel Apple pie arrived as a pile of gunk- was pretty tasty still but certainly didn't look it upon arrival. Probably won't order here again.

Big fan, especially of the brunch. (Edit: They seem to have eliminated their tasty brunch. Why is this place going down the tubes??) For some reason in the past few months they jacked up their prices even more though. Had it rated 5 stars at the old prices.

Good food! A little bit expensive, but generally great. Just don't expect a soda to come in a can or bottle; at time of writing they just put a flat soda into a plastic cup and hope it survives. That said, they've got great food and most couples could split one of their wraps as a meal because it comes with chips and soup.

To Despina- Who in the world orders eggs benedict to go?! No wonder it was hard-boiled. On another note, this place is ok. Definitely NOT worth the price.
Posted 4 years ago by Ivette F.
You'd think by how expensive this place is, Jesus himself was cooking. The idiot that packed our food thought it would make sense to put the orange juice on top on the food, loose. Of course it spilled all over making our toast soggy. Which actually wasn't such a bad thing because the bread was so stale the OJ helped make it somewhat soft. Also Eggs Benedict are supposed to be poached eggs with hollandaise sauce. Not hardboiled eggs with some hard sticky sauce inedible crap glued to the top of them. Awful!

Over-hyped. I do not know if I need to write more. Oh, maybe over-priced as well. After repeatedly ordering from Sanford's with the HOPE of it being delicious, it has not once been above a "good." It comes way late, always a bit cold. It is quickly thrown together, with less than quality ingredients. If anything, eat there. Farrrr better.

Ordered from them yesterday. Took an hour and a half for pancakes and a waffle to come. They were unapologetic and rude on the phone and didn't care when I wanted to cancel the order. When we got the food, the pancakes were thin instead of fluffy. Used to be a loyal customer but after this experience and since they don't seem to care about their long-term and frequent customers, I won't be ordering from them again.

Overpriced for what it was when it arrived. Cold fries and flat soda.

Been a loyal customer for about 5 years, since I moved to the neighborhood. That may all be about to change, though! Yesterday, our seamless.com breakfast order, placed just BEFORE 10am (when they start officially delivering) arrived at 11:30 AM. An hour and a half for pancakes, guys? Then the kicker - last night at 12:30 AM I was startled awake by my doorbell ringing incessantly...by a Sanford's delivery, which neither my husband nor I ordered. This morning I look at my cell phone and see a slew of missed calls from an unknown number and from...you guessed it...Sanford's. Maybe the duped my morning order at midnight? No idea. I'll remain a loyal eat-in or pick-up customer because their food is SO good, but I won't be ordering delivery again!

LOVE the food at Sanford's AND they deliver really late which is amazing! The salads always manage to stay fresh. I find that the crab cakes benedict don't travel try well but the flavors definitely hold up. Yay for the ravioli appetizer and the tuna tartar makes my meal every time.

LOVE Sanford's! The Peanut butter and banana pancakes are fantastic. Make sure you have some milk because there is a lot of peanut butter. I'm also a big fan of their omelettes and french toast. Also, everything is organic, so anything with fresh veggies is usually very good.

I've been dining in and ordering delivery from Sanford's for about 2 years now and have yet to be disappointed.
The Butternut Squash Ravioli is a must!
Another personal favorite is the Organic Whole Wheat Linguine with organic chicken, sun-dried cranberry, apple sausage.
I've tried numerous salads, quesadillas, wraps, burgers, and chicken dishes. All delicious and very generously proportioned. The Chicken Paillard is another great and healthy choice - it is topped with a yummy tomatoe/spinach salad.
Definitely save room for dessert! The Banana/Caramel Xangos are scrumptious. So is the Reese's Peanut Butter Pie.
LOVE this place.

The Herb Crusted Chicken sandwich is SO delicious, but the last 2 times I have ordered (the past 2 weeks) it hasn't quite been the same. Last week the 'side salad' was literally 4 pieces of lettuce & a tomato. My friend & I had to laugh to not cry about it. Tonight I ordered it and the chicken was still pink and a little too soft... raw tasting enough to make my stop eating it because I was scared I might get sick. I tried to toasting it in my toaster oven and to no avail.. I'm pretty disappointed. Sanfords is usually on point.

Very fast delivery! The chicken strips were not quite as good as they were the last time I ordered them. They were a bit tough. The Angus burger and fries were as good as ever, though. This place has never let me down.

I've been to Sanford's a ton of times since I moved to Astoria (the new Sanford's - since it's been renovated). The food never blows me away, and there is like 1 thing on the menu I really enjoy - the pecan crusted chicken salad. I went tonight and had a terrible experience. I'm not going back and not ordering from there anymore.
I ordered the pecan crusted talapia and it tasted really fishy - not fresh. So I sent it back and the owner (big bald Greek grouchy guy you see hanging around), was sitting at the other end of the bar from me. He kept leaning back to stare at me and he and the waiter whispered about me the rest of the time. Then the owner ate the food I sent back! I mean he cleaned the whole plate except for 2 bites (what I ate). Not only is that inappropriate, it's disgusting!
No apology from the owner. No effort to correct things or ask what was wrong. And talking about me while i was right there? - gross.
I left feeling sick.
The food's not that good, and if the owner is gross enough to eat someone else's food, how do you think he's running his kitchen?
PS, They recycle the dinner roles - so if you don't eat yours, the next patron gets them. H

i was pleasantly surprised by the bistro burger with a creamy zesty sauce and of course you have to mention the fries... man i haven't had fries like this since ever =) yay just ordered one like 10 minutes ago!!!!
if i could rate again i would... also if its possible you guys should add the cajun fries to your appetizers so i can get them instead without the yummy and higher priced steaks... sometimes (or for me almost every other day) i just want a greasy cheeseburger...

my favorite diner in the area, the delivery times tend to be quite long at the usual dining hours but everything on the menu is always tasty, its a little bit on the expensive side for a diner/restaurant but I think you probably wont be disappointed with the lunch and dinner entrees (never ate breakfast here)

people seem to love it, we ordered a lot of food and most of it was not good
sweet potato fries - soggy and tasted of old dirty oil, barely resembled a fry. more like a steamed potato with dirty oil
bbq chicken sandwich - bbq auce was not good and tasted quite similar to something i bought from kraft in the grocery store, came with fried tortilla strips that also tasted of old dirty oil and were inedible
dessert - they gave us the wrong dessert
ravioli /salad - good, not great
all of that for about $50. total waste

The delivery took an hour and a half. When we received the food it was cold as if it was sitting there and they forgot to deliver it. They also were missing part of the order, and the salad tasted odd, and the avocado seemed old. When we called back they were unapologetic, and rude.

Really great food but they can have really lousy service. Waited almost two hours for an order more than once and they didn't call to let me know and when I would call to check, they wouldn't really care. They're great if you luck out with the customer service but for me, not worth the hassle.

Delicious breakfast dishes - oh those banana chocolate chip pancakes are great! I am a major pancake fan and their pancakes are some of the best I've ever enjoyed! Please bring back the Croque Monsieur on seamless web. We've never had a meal we didn't enjoy thoroughly, though the desserts are a bit small. Great restaurant and chefs!

I am pleasantly surprised every single time I order for Sanford's. This is exactly what its about.

The food is good, but you always have to wait OVER ONE HOUR. They should just change their estimated delivery time because it is not 30-45 minutes. The food is good, but not worth the wait.

Ordered two items on a Sunday night, delivery took 85 minutes, not the 30-45 minutes it was supposed to be. One of the items was completely the wrong item. Took a 10 minute phone call to get a refund which was offered by the restaurant but took me repeating very clearly that I wanted a refund 5-6 times before they were able to understand me. Orzo soup is really good, but I won't order from them again since I had not one, or two, but three problems with a single order.

90 minutes after ordering, I don't really care anymore how good the food is going to be. Order confirmation said 30-45 minutes. We called after an hour to check in and the guy said "it's almost done". If you can't keep up with your orders, then temporarily disable your Seamless Web listing, rather than screwing customers. We ordered our lazy Sunday breakfast at 11:15AM and at close to 1PM we're still waiting. First and last time we order from Sanford's.

The best in Astoria! Amazing service. Great presentation. And most importantly, great food!

The burgers were great - sadly, they took 90 minutes to get here! I could have walked there, had a meal, and been back home in that time. We'll give them another shot in the hopes that this was a fluke, but if it happens again we'll be getting our burgers elsewhere.

I think on whole Sandford's is very good. All the food I ordered has been good. The pecan-crusted chicken salad, so good, my only beef about it is I think it could be seasoned a little bit more, but on whole very very good. The BBQ pulled pork sandwich is to die for, sooo good. I look forward to trying other things from them. Delivery, from my experience, has always been decent. Kbella

The food is always pretty good at Sanford's which is why we decided to order brunch on a Sunday morning - BAD IDEA. The delivery took over an hour and a half and when it finally got here our food was cold. I asked them to go light on the cheese which they didn't. They also gave me white toast instead of the wheat toast I ordered and forgot the sugar for the coffee. DO NOT ORDER FROM SANFORD'S ON A SUNDAY.

Took over an hour to get here (estimated time was 30-45 minutes). I ordered the burger medium rare and got a hockey puck, and the cheese was completely rubbery. I had requested well-done fries and raw onion with the burger and got neither. I understand that a delivery burger is not the same as having it there, but this was clearly sitting for quite some time before it got to me. Sanfords has good food generally, but I can't stand the dark atmosphere and delivery was a failure. Too bad.

I think is time for Sanford's to change its name to : "The place where chicken is always dry and tasteless". And is finally time for me to stop ordering from them. I gave them way too many chances. And still disappointing...My "Garlic Crusted Chicken" was mediocre. No flavor, no garlic in the mashed potatoes (as described in the menu). Dry and chewy chicken. The food was barely warm....This is the LAST time ordering from them.

Amazing Quesadillas, Salads and Love the Avocado & Chicken Pasta. Delivery is always on target.

sanfords is great. they have wonderful food. their menu is kinda played out though, they could use more items, some different kinda stuff... (the quesadillas kinda seem like they just throw whatever they can into a pan and see what sticks, including the sauces) but they have super yum yum food. their beverage choices are kinda lacking when ordering for delivery though- i feel that fountain soda is a ripoff there, the cups are small and the prices are high. sometimes they take forever to deliver too- pretty sure they totally forgot to bring my roommate's order once...

Great food...if you're willing to wait double to triple the time they quote you. I was told it would be 30-45 minutes for our order. After an hour and 20 minutes I called to find out what was going on and was told the delivery guy had left a few minutes ago. It took forever!
The food however was amazingly good. I would never have expected this quality from a diner. I HIGHLY recommend the Butternut Squash Ravioli appetizer. I love the "chips" that come with the sandwiches!

we live in a house of seven guys that drink constantly and party like corey haim.
we order from sanfords constantly and not only do they put up with our horrifically drunken banter, they do not taint the food.
its actually amazing.
very very suggestable any time of the day.

I ususally love all of sanfords dishes but this croque monsieur was dry and the cheese was horrible. Probably the worst dish on their menu.

Miss the old sanford's before they renovated the place, raised prices and gave you less for you dollar. Portions need to be larger

Food was good, but delivery took FOREVER! Over 1 Hour to get my food, and by then, it was lukewarm. Had to heat it up before eating it.

My favorite restaurant in Astoria! Sometimes delivery takes awhile but its so worth it because their food never dissapoints. The portabella panini is my favorite.

Best place to order from in Astoria. Good selection, food almost always excellent, not too expensive.

Sanford's food is great but their delivery is awful. First time we ordered through Seamless the delivery took over an hour and the order was wrong. Second time (at a new apartment that is closer to the restaurant) the food did not come in 2 hours. We had to call to cancel.

Food is good, but it took an hour and a half to get my food on a weekday at lunchtime. Not worth it.

Have always had good meals AT Sanford's, but they need to work on their delivery skills- We ordered on a Monday evening and given an estimated delivery time of 30-45 minutes. After and hour we called to where the food was and were told the delivery guy 'left a while ago.' after an hour and 15 minutes it still had not arrived so we called to check up again- Sanford's was apologetic, but we asked them to cancel the order anyway. After an hour and a half the food arrived, but we weren't interested in cold food that had supposedly left the restaurant well over 30 minutes ago. It's too bad because their food is always good.

The steak panini, cheeseburgers and salads have all been excellent.

Delivery on time, decent food. The fries could have been better, but the burger and the wrap were good.
